January Recap

RTC Solar ended winter break with a lot of momentum. The team’s hard work paid off with the completion of the frame and suspension. The chassis is now sitting on it’s own tires and shocks.

Eight team members and parent volunteers traveled to Dallas for a Solar Car Challenge workshop. They joined 27 teams to learn about the race route, observe a mock judging of a solar car, and take in some do’s and don’ts of driving a cross country race.

RTC Solar made the front page of the county paper! The team welcomed new sponsors ROMCO, Humsienk, and Bluebonnet Electric Coop.

A snow day at the end of January did not deter the solar car team. Our planned after school design meeting pivoted to a zoom meeting. Check out the video on this blog post for a glimpse into our design process. We reviewed progress on electrical schematics, started pedal assembly design in OnShape CAD, and discussed launch of RTC Solar on Instagram and Facebook. We are preparing the car for display at the Education Foundation Gala on February 7th. We look forward to seeing everybody there. Check out the video we put together for our fundraising efforts.
