February Recap

Recap

February Recap.

February was a galvanizing month for the team. We had the opportunity to participate in a number of outreach presentations.

In early February, the team displayed the chassis at the Round Top-Carmine Education Foundation Gala and was happy to talk to the supporters present about the project. The RTC Educational Foundation graciously covered the registration fees for the Solar Car Challenge event. We are grateful for their support of our project.

A few team members presented to Austin-area high school students at an event hosted by Solar Austin. Solar Austin donated solar panels for testing to our project in the fall. Students have been able to use the donated panels for learning how to measure voltage and current from photovoltaics.

Three team members presented to the LaGrange Noon Lions Club, which included lunch! We invited Noon Lions representatives to see our project in person, and they delivered a contribution during their visit. We are grateful for their support and their time.

Fabrication of the steering systems and seat mounting system was completed. Testing of the solar charge controllers began. Design activities for the pedal assembly progressed and a new design project of a reversing gearbox for the steering system was commissioned…ask us why later.

We would like to thank ROMCO for their support. In addition to a generous financial contribution, they brought the team pizza for our workday and spoke to us about the many career opportunities in the trades. We look forward to more visits this spring as we continue to build the car.

ROMCO also introduced the team to Pirtek (Katy, Rosenberg, Angleton, College Station) who have committed a very generous financial contribution to the project to support the team’s future careers.

We are continuing our fundraising efforts to reach our goals to finish the car and drive it almost 700 miles across Texas in July. We are overwhelmed by the support so far! Thank you!

P.S. The registration packet was mailed in! Almost a hundred pages of technical documentation!
